'Thriller' is the term used to describe a film where there is fast pacing and frequent action. Usually thriller films contain heroes that try and thwart the plans of the villains. 'Thrillers' usually contain sub-genres as there are, for example, thriller/comedy, thriller/romance, thriller/sci-fi etc. The main codes and conventions are red-harrings, cliff-hangers and suspension. 'Thrillers' are designed to create a enthrawling atmosphere for the veiwer and are described as being 'scary' but not 'disgusting'.Characteristics of thriller movies:In most thriller films there are heroes and a villains, but this is not in all. Heroes in thriller films are usually ordinary people like police officers, lawyers that just happen to be drawn into daner and end up saving lives. In other thriller films the heroes may be spies or secret agents.Thrillers have been heavily influenced by pop culture, horrors and psychological horrors and the villain in some cases could be some sort of monster,supernatural being or even an alien in sci-fi/thrillers.Examples of sub-genres:
Action thriller: this consists of races against time, alot of violence and alot of action.
Crime thriller: usually an account of a suspenseful, successful or failed crime or commiting of a crime.
Drama thriller: includes elements of drama films and thriller films.
Psychological thriller: consists of mental and emotional conflict between characters, requiring the audience to really think, drawing them more and more into the plot.
Techno thriller: In which technology is the central part of the plot and the key points for the veiwer to focus on understanding and being drawn into the plot.
